National Poetry Month 2011, Day #20: Leave It to Beaver

Knowing what Jerry Mathers looks like
as an adult
makes watching "Leave It to Beaver" reruns
like eating a sandwich in a landfill:

the sandwich is still good
(if only white bread)
but the stench of inevitability
makes it harder to swallow.
