National Poetry Month 2011, Day #29: Part of a Whole

Imagine the alphabet
without any one letter.

How would our language change?

This isn't a rhetorical question;
I need an answer,
because a letter on my keyboard is missing,
and I'm wondering if it's absolutely necessary.

I won't tell you which letter;
I wouldn't want that knowledge
to jade your opinion.

Just know that I've used it several times
in this poem already
and it hasn't been easy.

Of course, nothing worthwhile is easy.
If it was easy, it wouldn't be worth doing.

If it wasn't worth doing,
why would it even exist?

Imagine your life
without any one letter.

Wouldn't it just
be a lie?
