National Poetry Month 2011, Day #7: Status Transmitter

Facebook's format
is always changing
its settings forever seeking
to expose us
and the outcry against change
oh, yes,
because social norms in the real world
never change
the way we should read our friends
is always the same day after day
#sarcasm

and I'm the ocean
waiting for your message
in a bottle
but you don't even
live near the beach
you live in the big city
and it's hard to put a billboard
in a bottle

in the future
social networking will be
a pill you can swallow
that turns your body
into a status transmitter
detectable by other status transmitters
and I'll finally be able
to read you loud and clear
as long as you're in range
