Thank You, Flagstaff!

Last weekend, Amazing Arizona Comics blew through Flagstaff, first at Cab Comics on Saturday, then Bookman's on Sunday -- and if you're visiting the blog because you picked up a comic or a sketch at one of those events, thank you and welcome!

First of all, after you read this post, make sure you visit Amazing Arizona Comics Online for a new, fully colored webcomic that takes place in Northern Arizona, called The Route 66 Of All Evil!

Here are a few highlights from the roadtrip, starting with a hot air balloon sighting just north of Phoenix Saturday morning.  Hot air balloons are a regular sight this time of year, but one of them looked very familiar.  You might remember Javier Balloon, the Living Hot Air Balloon, who appeared in Amazing Arizona Comics #8 and #10, and most recently in Amazing Arizona Comics Quarterly #2 . . .

Could that possibly be him on the horizon there?  This cropped, fuzzy image is proof the Arizonauts exist!

Once in Flagstaff, I was happy to sketch for folks all weekend.  Here are two of my favorites: a Howard the Duck (not oft requested!) and an original character created by a Bookman's customer, Badger Tom.

Finally, a quick visit to NAU campus inspired research for an upcoming Amazing Arizona Comics adventure, that I will tease with this image . . .

Thanks again for visiting!  More to come!

Christmas Calendar Roundup

You think you had it rough this Christmas -- just look at what Santa had to go through . . .!

Moving on . . . I'll be at the Bookmans Entertainment Exchange in Phoenix on Saturday, December 27 for a special Star Wars themed event, drawing comics and caricatures for kids and kids-at-heart!  Check out the event page here, and I'll see you there!

Star Wars Reads Day & Other Recent Appearances Round-up

A special thanks to Bookman's in Phoenix for hosting me this Saturday at their annual Star Wars Reads Day event!  I drew caricatures, Star Wars characters, and superheroes for children of all ages in attendance, and it was a blast!  Here's my warm-up sketch from that afternoon:

I'm also delighted to report that I recently offered a caricature to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Phoenix as a thank you card for the chefs that competed in their annual Dish It Out culinary fundraiser.  The evening featuring four of Arizona's premiere chefs, and I drew them in an homage to The Avengers  #4:

Chef Aaron May (the meat cleaver swinging Thor wanna-be above) won the night, and here we are with the drawing:

The event was hosted by Arizona radio legend Beth McDonald, who you can hear every weekday morning on KEZ 99.9 FM.  Meeting her was an absolute pleasure!

This winter promises to be very busy, with Artist's Alley tables scheduled for iCon in downtown Glendale, the new Phoenix Comicon Fan Fest in December, and of course the Amazing Arizona Comic Con in February.  Each event will have its own special premiere, so stay tuned for the latest projects, and as always feel free to swing by for a free superhero sketch.
