Thanks, Al's Comics!

A special thanks to Al's Comics in San Francisco for including my Karaoke Comics in their Alternative Press Expo window display! Right across the street from my favorite karaoke venue, the Mint, no less!

If you picked up one of my comics at APE, I'd love to hear back from you! Just comment here or drop me a line.

APE Press Release

Press Release

The One Comic Book that Should Make San Francisco Boycott APE!

October 16-17, 2010 – Every year, independent comic book artists storm San Francisco with the dream that their work will be discovered and adored by fans, but one artist already accepts that his comic book will most likely be scorned and ridiculed, as well it should be.

Russ Kazmierczak, Jr., the writer and illustrator behind Amazing Arizona Comics, is bringing his unabashedly Arizona-oriented work to San Francisco, one of the most vocal cities against the Grand Canyon State's immigration bill, SB 1070.

“When I moved back to Phoenix this year, I had no idea I'd be in the cross hairs of a nationwide boycott!” Kazmierczak explains. “I created Amazing Arizona Comics to help process the craziness going on around me.”

The first two issues of Amazing Arizona Comics are available now and will be on sale at the K.O. Comix booth #729 at APE. These issues star characters like Speed Cameron and June Monsoon, who are super deputies called “Arizonauts” in Sheriff Joe Arpaio's posse.

“Sheriff Joe has been pretty secretive about his financial records lately,” Kazmierczak continues. “Who says he isn't hiding a secret super deputy program?”

Ironically, Kazmierczak isn't a fan of attracting controversy, as evidenced by his concern for the future of the Alternative Press Expo. “I'm from Arizona, and I'm bringing a comic book about Arizona to APE. So, San Franciscans boycotting Arizona shouldn't come to APE! I hope I don't end up shutting down the event forever!”

Better Late Than Never

Check out this awesome Halloween karaoke sketch Brent kicked out at our APE booth a few weekends ago! I would've posted it sooner, but I've had scanner issues.

Karaoke Comics #2 is in the works, but until then my Halloween karaoke exploits are posted at my main blog. And what kind of karaoke does a ghost like to sing on Halloween, you might ask? Rhythm and boos!

APE Article on CBR!

A special thanks to John Parkin from the blog Robot 6 for his detailed article about this year's Alternative Press Expo at Comic Book Resources, and for including some quotes from yours truly! Not to brag, but one of my quotes was actually used as the article's headline!

If anyone is checking out my humble little blog as a result of that article, drop me a line, and I'll happily send you a complimentary copy of my first solo self-published comic, Karaoke Comics #1. Otherwise, the rest of my self-published work can be found at KaraokeFanboy Press -- and don't forget to check out my K.O. Comix buddy Brent's new dogs vs. cats apocalyptic western, Dog Town, too!

Pac-Man Karaoke

Doctor Popular was kind enough to contribute to the karaoke sketchbook I started at Comic Con this year with this watercolored Pac-Man piece -- VERY cool! I reviewed a book he published over at A Comic A Day, a 24-hour comic called The Magic Yo-Yo by Oke Rosgana, and I included an image of his Pac-Man Ghostbuster. That's right -- thanks to Doc Pop, two of my favorite comic book staples had a baby, and I got to take it home. Check it out!

Back from APE . . .

A special thanks to anybody and everybody that visited the K.O. Comix booth at the Alternative Press Expo in San Francisco last weekend! My personal imprint, KaraokeFanboy Press, made its convention debut, and if you're visiting this blog because you picked up Karaoke Comics #1 or one of my Far & Wee fanzines, welcome! Believe me, this is a new experience for me, too, so if you have any feedback, feel free to leave a comment or drop me a line.

In the meantime, my thanks to Robot 6 at Comic Book Resources for giving Karaoke Comics #1 a shout-out (along with my buddy Brent's new book Dog Town, probably the best comic about dogs vs. cats in a post-apocalyptic Old West I've ever read) -- and my thanks to the Mint, where I sang "Piano Man," not to mention the kind stranger that took this pic for me. Yes, I was alone, and I asked someone to take my picture singing. Vanity, thy name is karaoke!

Goin' APE!

From my sketchbook.

K.O. Comix and KaraokeFanboy Press will exhibit at the Alternative Press Expo this October in San Francisco! Stoked to get this stuff out there -- and to see Brent's most recent project, Dog Town! Now he just has to finish it . . . though I'm not one to judge. We've exhibited at Comic Con and APE for years, and this will be my first time selling my own comic. To quote Cheech from Ghostbusters 2, "Better late than never!"
